Hoping For A Miracle

Hoping For A Miracle

With wrinkled homework
and sack lunch
in hand,
late as usual,
i hurried down
our tree lined

my heart racing,
i glanced up,
in a weak gesture
of piety,
hoping just this once
would take my side.

the clouds

and then par    ted.

high overhead
there was a sudden garish splash
of tumbling yellow,

holding my breath,
arms outstretched,
i attempted
seemingly impossible
task of

catching the bus.
