Needing A Miracle
With wrinkled homework
and sack lunch
in hand,
late as usual,
i hurried down
our tree lined
driveway.
My heart racing,
I glanced up,
in a weak gesture
of piety,
hoping just this once
God
would take my side.

and then par ted.
high overhead
there was a sudden garish splash
of tumbling yellow,
and
holding my breath,
arms outstretched,
I attempted
the
seemingly impossible
task of
catching the bus.
