Person of Interest

His birth certificate indicated
he had not been born in the
Valley of Neander,

but as he explored
his dictionary
that day,

a hairy comet pierced
Earth's atmosphere,
slowed and exploded

down the
page of
N's.

A starry glint of realization
lit his eyes and
warmed his soul,

thick lips relishing
the final syllable—
thal,

and he realized then,
at long last,
he'd found his true identity.

Deny It Not

Deny It Not

We are of the sea

and of the caves,

though

time

has rinsed us clean

of these dim

memories.

And yet we still long

to splash about,

ride the tumultuous waves,

and

explore dark spaces.

Yes, we have

forgotten whence

we came,

but

our desperate thirst for water—

our voracious appetite for meat—

and

our hideous capacity for violence—

abate not.
